Movie Review - Sky Force: A High-Flying Tribute to India's Unsung Heroes

Plot : Sky Force is a historical war drama set during the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War, focusing on the remarkable story of Squadron Leader Ajjmanda B Devaiah (fictionalized as Krishna Vijayan), who played a crucial role in the Sargodha air strike, India’s first strike into Pakistan. In this mission, Devaiah pilots the Mystere aircraft against the superior Starfighter jets of the Pakistan Air Force, proving that even underdog technology could triumph through skill and determination. The film highlights the unrecognized heroism of Devaiah, who remained "missing in action" for decades, only to be later honored with the Mahavir Chakra for his bravery. His story is juxtaposed with the character of Wing Commander O.P. Taneja (fictionalized as Kumar Om Ahuja), portrayed by Akshay Kumar, who serves as the main narrator, guiding the audience through the narrative of the war.

They try to craft a compelling story of bravery, nationalism, and sacrifice, but the storytelling often falters in balancing character development with action. While the pacing is consistent, the shift in focus from Devaiah to Ahuja may leave viewers feeling disconnected from the real heart of the story. Kewlani and Kapur successfully highlight India’s air superiority and the tactical genius of the IAF during the 1965 war, but their decision to lean on Akshay Kumar’s star power weakens the emotional core of the narrative.
