Plot

Raksha Bandhan (2022) is a heartwarming family comedy-drama that centers around the life of Lala Kedarnath (played by Akshay Kumar), a hardworking, middle-class man who runs a small chaat shop in Old Delhi. Lala is deeply committed to his four sisters and has vowed to marry only after securing their futures. Despite his love for Sapna (Bhumi Pednekar), his childhood friend and sweetheart, Lala’s promise to his late mother to provide for his sisters before marrying keeps him from pursuing a relationship with her. The film explores Lala's struggles in balancing his duties as a brother and his desire for personal happiness. His sisters, who are well-educated and independent, yearn for love and respect in a society where gender roles are often restrictive. Lala’s attempts to keep his promise lead to comedic situations and emotional conflicts, as he faces pressure from his family, society, and his own heart. The movie also delves into themes of familial responsibility, the power of sibling bonds, and breaking free from societal expectations. As Lala works to secure a future for his sisters, he realizes that he must also stand up for his own desires and make peace with his personal dreams. Raksha Bandhan blends humor, emotion, and social commentary with a strong focus on the bond between siblings.
