Plot
Jogi (2022) is a poignant period drama set against the harrowing backdrop of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film follows the courageous journey of Jogi (Diljit Dosanjh), a Sikh man whose life is upended when the riots erupt following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. As violence engulfs the city, Jogi, along with his childhood friends Rawinder (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) and Lali (Hiten Tejwani), risks everything to protect his family and neighbors in their Sikh-majority neighborhood. The trio, cutting across religious lines, devises a daring plan to evacuate the residents to safety while navigating a city rife with chaos, fear, and betrayal. The film delves into themes of friendship, sacrifice, and humanity amidst unimaginable turmoil. Jogi’s unwavering determination to save lives and his confrontations with corrupt authorities, including Lali’s conflicted role as a police officer, highlight the complexities of survival during communal violence. Through its emotional narrative and powerful performances, especially by Diljit Dosanjh, Jogi paints a heartbreaking yet inspiring picture of resilience and unity in the face of hate. The film is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of those who stand for justice and humanity in the darkest of times.
