Plot
Hurdang is a story of love and rebellion set against the politically charged backdrop of the 1990 Mandal Commission protests in Allahabad. The film follows Daddu Thakur (Sunny Kaushal), an ambitious and fiery college student with dreams of becoming a respected IAS officer. Deeply in love with Jhulan (Nushrratt Bharuccha), he hopes to marry her and rise above the limitations imposed by his social standing. However, their relationship faces a tough challenge as the Mandal Commission’s recommendations for reservations in government jobs and educational institutions trigger widespread protests, sparking deep societal divides. Caught in the political storm, Daddu’s life takes a tumultuous turn as he finds himself drawn into the student-led protests against caste-based reservations. Influenced by political leader Loha Singh (Vijay Varma), Daddu becomes embroiled in the movement, which jeopardizes his personal dreams and relationship with Jhulan. As violence escalates and passions run high, Daddu is forced to confront his ideals, questioning the meaning of justice, ambition, and love amidst societal chaos. Hurdang portrays the struggle between personal aspirations and larger socio-political issues, offering a glimpse into a pivotal moment in India’s history. It explores the cost of rebellion, the impact of systemic policies on youth, and the resilience of love amid political upheaval.
