Upendra Limaye was born on November 8, 1969, in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He grew up in the Sadashiv Peth area of Pune and attended Bharti Vidyapeeth and New English High School. Limaye is married to Swati Limaye, and together they have two children. He is renowned for his versatile acting skills across various mediums, including Marathi and Hindi films, television serials, and theater. His breakout role came in the Marathi film "Jogwa" (2009), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor. This performance was later recognized by Forbes as one of the "25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema" during the centenary celebration of Indian cinema in 2013. Over his career, Limaye has collaborated with notable directors and has acted in numerous acclaimed films such as "Chandni Bar," "Traffic Signal," and "Page 3." He also founded an experimental theater platform called 'Parichay' in 1988.
