Sharat Saxena was born on August 17, 1950, in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India. He spent his childhood in Bhopal and completed his schooling at St. Joseph Convent School and Christ Church Boys' Senior Secondary School. Saxena pursued an engineering degree in Electronics & Telecommunication from Jabalpur Engineering College, after which he moved to Mumbai in 1972 to pursue a career in acting. Despite facing challenges due to his muscular build, he found success primarily in supporting roles, often portraying villains or character parts. He is married to Shobha Saxena, and they have two children, Veera and Vishal. Throughout his career, Saxena has appeared in over 250 films across various languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil. He is known for his roles in notable films such as Mr. India, Ghayal, and Baghban. His performance as Kichaka in the television serial Mahabharat also gained him recognition.
