Sanjana Kapoor was born on November 27, 1967, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She is the daughter of renowned actors Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal, making her a prominent member of the illustrious Kapoor family. Sanjana has two brothers, Kunal and Karan Kapoor, who have also ventured into acting. She completed her education at the Bombay International School. Sanjana has been married twice; her first marriage was to actor and director Aditya Bhattacharya, which ended in divorce. She later married Valmik Thapar, a tiger conservationist, with whom she has a son named Hamir Thapar, born in 2002. Sanjana has dedicated much of her career to theatre, managing the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai from 1993 until 2012 and later founding Junoon Theatre in 2012.
