Sandhya Suri is a British-Indian film director and documentarian, born in England. She was raised in Darlington, where her father, Yash Pal Suri, emigrated from India to work at a hospital. After earning a degree in mathematics, she taught in Japan, which inspired her to pursue documentary filmmaking at the National Film and Television School. Her notable works include the documentary "I for India" (2005), which chronicles her father's experiences as an Indian immigrant in the UK and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Suri's second film, "Around India with a Movie Camera" (2018), utilized archival footage to depict life in British India. Additionally, she directed the short film "The Field," which received a BAFTA nomination for Best Short Film in 2019. Her narrative feature debut, "Santosh," is set to screen in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Suri has been recognized for her unique storytelling and has several projects in development, including adaptations of literary works.
