Poonam Dhillon, born on April 18, 1962, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, is an acclaimed Indian actress and politician. She is the daughter of Amrik Singh, an aeronautical engineer in the Indian Air Force, and Gurcharan Kaur, a school principal. Poonam completed her schooling at Carmel Convent in Chandigarh and pursued her graduation before entering the film industry at the age of 16 after winning the Miss Young India title in 1978. She gained significant fame with her role in the 1979 film Noorie, which earned her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress. Poonam was married to film producer Ashok Thakeria from 1988 until their divorce in 1997. The couple has two children: a son named Anmol and a daughter named Paloma. Throughout her career, Poonam has been involved in various social causes and briefly entered politics.
