Mala Sinha, born Alda Sinha on November 11, 1936, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India, is a celebrated Indian actress known for her significant contributions to Hindi and Bengali cinema. She began her career in the film industry after winning a beauty contest, making her debut in the Bengali film "Roshanara" in 1952. Sinha gained prominence in Hindi cinema with her first film "Badshah" in 1954, but it was her role in "Anpadh" (1962) that established her as a leading actress. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she delivered memorable performances in films such as "Pyaasa" (1957), "Gumrah" (1963), and "Himalay Ki God Mein" (1965). Renowned for portraying strong female characters, she earned accolades for her versatility and depth as an actress. Mala Sinha married Chidambaram Prasad Lohani in 1966, and they have a daughter named Pratibha Sinha. Despite the challenges of a long-distance marriage, with Lohani based in Kathmandu, she continued to thrive in her acting career while balancing family life.
