He completed his schooling at St. Mary's School in Mumbai and pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Sir J.J. School of Art from 1983 to 1988. Growing up in the Mazagon Docks area, where his father worked as a marine engineer, Kunal developed an early interest in the culinary arts. As of 2023, he is unmarried.
Kunal's career spans various domains in the entertainment industry. He is widely recognized as the host of "The Foodie – with Kunal Vijayakar," a popular food show that aired for nine years, completing nearly 500 episodes.
