Chhaya began his acting career in the early 1990s with a minor role as "Jijo" in the Zee TV series Tara. He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Krishnakant Trivedi in the mid-1990s series Hasratein, where he played a wealthy boss involved in an extramarital affair.
