Gurvinder Singh

Gurvinder Singh is an acclaimed Indian film director known for his critically acclaimed Punjabi language films. He studied filmmaking at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, graduating in 2001. Singh's directorial debut was the documentary Pala in 2003, which focused on a Punjabi folk balladeer. He went on to make several short experimental works and documentaries on arts and artists in the following years.

Singh's first major film was the 2011 feature Anhe Ghore Da Daan, based on a novel by Gurdial Singh. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won multiple awards, including the National Film Award for Best Direction and Best Cinematography in India. His second feature, Chauthi Koot (2015), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and explored the political tensions in 1980s Punjab.

In recent years, Singh has directed the short film Infiltrator as part of an international anthology and the experimental film Sea of Lost Time based on Gabriel Garcia Marquez's stories. His unique cinematic style and focus on marginalized communities in Punjab have earned him critical acclaim both in India and internationally.
