Govind Namdev was born on September 3, 1954, in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. He is married to Sudha Namdev and they have three daughters: Pallavi, Pragati, and Megha. Govind stands at a height of approximately 5 feet 8 inches. His father was involved in tailoring, specifically designing clothes for deities, a family tradition that shaped his upbringing. He is the fourth among ten siblings, which instilled in him a competitive spirit from a young age.

Govind Namdev's journey in acting began after he completed his diploma at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi. He spent over a decade honing his craft with the NSD Repertory Company before making his film debut in David Dhawan's Shola Aur Shabnam in 1992.
