Dara Singh

Dara Singh Randhawa, born on November 19, 1928, in Dharmuchak village, Punjab, India, was a renowned Indian professional wrestler, actor, director, and politician. He was the son of Surat Singh and Balwant Kaur. In 1947, he moved to Singapore, where he began his wrestling career under the guidance of Harnam Singh. Dara Singh gained fame as a wrestler by winning numerous championships, including the Commonwealth Championship in 1959 and the World Wrestling Championship in 1968. He was also the first sportsman nominated to the Rajya Sabha in India. Dara Singh married Bachno Kaur at a young age but later married Surjit Kaur in 1961. He had six children—one from his first marriage and five from his second. Dara Singh passed away on July 12, 2012, due to cardiac arrest and was cremated in Mumbai.
