Chandan completed his education at Raisina Bengali School and Zakir Husain College, where he earned an honors degree in Mathematics. He made his acting debut in the 2006 film "Rang De Basanti," portraying Batukeshwar Dutt. His breakthrough role came in Vishal Bhardwaj's 2009 film "Kaminey," which garnered him significant recognition. Sanyal's versatility is evident in his performances across various genres, including notable films like "Aparajita Tumi" and "Prague."
