Asin Thottumkal, born on October 26, 1985, in Kochi, Kerala, is a former Indian actress known for her work in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu cinema. She hails from a Syro-Malabar Catholic family; her father, Joseph Thottumkal, is a businessman and her mother, Dr. Seline Thottumkal, is a surgeon. Asin pursued her education at Naval Public School and St. Teresa's College in Kochi, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. She began her acting career at the age of 15 with the Malayalam film "Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka" (2001). Asin gained prominence in the Telugu film industry with "Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi" (2003), winning a Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Her successful transition to Tamil cinema was marked by films like "M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi" (2004) and the critically acclaimed "Ghajini" (2005). In Bollywood, she made her debut with the Hindi version of "Ghajini" (2008) alongside Aamir Khan. Asin is married to Rahul Sharma, an entrepreneur, and they have one daughter together. She is recognized for her contributions to cinema with several awards, including the Kalaimamani award from the Tamil Nadu government.
